It's Official...
Earlier this evening I heard a racket outside. There were a lot of cars going down the street; I heard loud music, loud voices and people having fun. Our college-age neighbors were throwing a party.
“My god, what are they thinking?!” I thought to myself. “It’s Monday night and it’s past ten o’clock. Don’t they know people have to work in the morning?”
Then I thought back to when I was that age and how I used to go to parties like that and how much fun they were. I thought about all of the cool people I got to meet and about all of the crazy stories I have from those years. I thought maybe I should let them have their fun. After all, finals are over and it’s summer time.
Then it hit me, I never went to parties like that. I never even got invited to parties like that. Most of the parties I went to consisted of two to five guys drinking, smoking and playing video games.
At that point, I wanted to ruin all of their fun. I wanted them all to get in trouble for all of the noise they were making…….and for not inviting me.
So, I called the police.
I don’t know why, but I found it very exciting to be telling on someone. And it filled me with much joy to be getting someone in trouble. I wanted to stay up and watch as the cops showed up and broke up all of their fun, but by this point it was almost eleven o’clock, way past my bedtime.
I believe it is now official, I am old.
Soon I will become that old man who sits on the front porch and yells at all the kids as they go by to be quiet. I’ll shake my cane and yell at the cars to slow down as they go by. Hell, I may even start a neighborhood watch here pretty soon.
It sucks getting old.
