Yes, I Know What All Those Buttons Do
Being both an audiophile and a recording nerd, I enjoy it when people talk about the technical side of music. I wanted to take this opportunity to point out a wonderful song that is about a piece of recording equipment. “Me And My 424” by John Vanderslice. This song is all about his Tascam 4-track (model 424). Being such a big nerd, I was excited when I knew exactly what he was singing about, not only that, I used a 424 for years. In the song, he also mentions “Model 2” which is the model that I currently use. It may be dumb, but I felt like I could hang out with John and “ talk shop”. I challenge all of you to find a better song about recording equipment.
On the subject of nerds, I must also mention “Advance Cassette” by Spoon. This is the only love song I’ve ever heard about a promotional cassette tape.
