Happiness

I've been taking a break from my blog lately to spend time with needy children. Actually, I’ve just felt like I have nothing worth talking about lately. I guess you could say I’m a bit depressed.

It’s not easy being unemployed and in constant pain. I mean, if I was just unemployed I could at least keep myself busy by looking for work, preparing resumes and all of that fun stuff. If I was working and in pain, I’d at least be able to earn some money as well as having something to keep me busy so I could forget about the pain a bit. But not being able to work and being in pain is ridiculous. I feel like all I ever do is go to see doctors anymore. I have tons of medical bills coming in and hardly any money to pay them with. And the doctors seem to think that I’d just end up hurting myself more if I were to go and get a job.

Don’t get me wrong, I do get out and do things that don’t involve my doctors, but no matter how much fun I’m having, I’m still in pain. What most people would think of as just a day out ends up being more like a weeklong event for me.

For my birthday, Maggie and I went to the Kansas City Zoo and just last weekend we went to Maryville to see Michael Moore speak. Sounds like a fun day out, huh? Well, we had a great time, the problem is that even just walking around the zoo or sitting in the bleachers at a football field throw all of my muscles out of whack. It’s been five days since I sat in those bleachers and my back and legs are still aching from it. You get used to hurting, I guess, but it wears on you a little bit everyday.

I’m sure there are some people who see me not working and think it would be nice to have an extended paid vacation like me. I know before all of this happened, I’d even thought about how nice it would be to take a break from working. Be careful what you wish for.

Let me tell you, I can’t wait to be pain free and/or working again.

To offset the depressing bit above, here are some of the fun things I’ve been doing lately:
  • Went to see Michael Moore speak in Maryville (nice place to visit but I wouldn't want to live there).
  • Went to a fundraising event for the blind where they were selling thousands of records for $1 a piece (we got some good stuff!).
  • Went to the Kansas City Zoo (even got to see the lion having his way with several of the lionesses).
  • Finally got to see Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (I thought it was great).
  • Maggie and I got some travel guides from AAA and are planning the move to California.
  • Bought a digital camera for our drive out to California (I always get a kick out of electronics).
  • Various trips to various thrift stores (everyone knows I love cheap junk and bargains).
  • Maggie and I are going to see Death Cab For Cutie tomorrow night.
I think that’s enough to balance out the depressing stuff for now.
